Reading and Writing in the Age of Trump

In the wake of a stunning and destabilizing presidential election, questions abound: How should the literary community of writers and readers respond? How do authors of fiction and poetry approach their vocation at this political moment? To what extent can (and should) activism intersect with art? What role can literature play when faced with an administration that is at best dismissive and at worst hostile toward the arts? Four writers—novelist and memoirist Andre Dubus III, poets Steph Burt and Regie Gibson, and novelist Caroline Woods—will explore these questions and many others in conversation with Vogue’s Megan O’Grady. And readers, we have questions for you, too: What books have you turned to for solace, strength, or escape post-election? What books would you add to POTUS’s must-read list? Join the conversation at this timely event, part book club, part support group.
